Fayette County News 05.06.2020

May 6 Fayette County News – Charles W. Oddo

Why should voters care who is their county commissioners are?

Voters should care greatly who their County Commissioners are because it is their Commissioners' decisions that affect the daily lives of every resident of Fayette County.  Those they choose should demonstrate traits that make them suitable.

Those who wish to be Commissioners should be fair, professional, and respectful.

They should conduct themselves with purpose and vision for the community.

They should be mindful of the facts, open to learning, and even-handed in their decisions.

They must especially have the courage necessary to make difficult choices and the integrity to do what is right, though it may not always be popular.

They must have the fortitude to govern with the head, not the heart, and be prepared to make some very difficult choices, understanding the ramifications of each.

And they must be accessible to every resident of Fayette County.

They should build bridges, not burn them.

Commissioners have the responsibility to oversee and maintain the well-being of the entire community.

They must be impartial, professional, and responsive in all matters, at all times.  Their only special interest should be all the citizens of Fayette County.

They must be able to listen and hear the concerns of all of our 113,000 residents, those who attend BOC meetings, and those who do not.

They must have the temperament to work with their fellow commissioners, other elected officials, and community leaders.

They must be able to represent Fayette's needs to the state, to ARC (Atlanta Regional Commission), and to the recently created ATL (Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority).  In a competitive field of 158 other counties and 530 cities outside of Fayette County, the ability to foster good relationships is critical to collaboration, funding, and assistance.

Voters should absolutely care who their Commissioners are.

Voters should care to have a Commissioner who has demonstrated commitment to the community for the long term, someone who is trustworthy, fiscally responsible, considerate to all sides of an issue, and capable of making tough decisions when warranted.

Respectfully, voters should care that as a Commissioner, I have demonstrated these attributes in my conduct, my decisions, my commitment of 50 years to my community, my desire to serve, and I ask you to vote for me, Charles W. Oddo, to continue as your District 5 At-Large commissioner.  All registered voters in Fayette County are eligible to vote in my district.  For more information or questions, please see my website: www.oddonow.com  email me: oddonow@aol.com
