The following interview was conducted by the Fayette County News. I reproduced my response to assist voters in making their decision. I am available as always to speak with anyone who wishes. Thank you very much for the opportunity I have had to serve, and I respectfully ask that you vote for me to continue the excellent course Fayette County has chartered over the past seven years.

May 27 Fayette County News – Charles W. Oddo
"The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves." – Ray Kroc.
As June 9 approaches, I feel privileged to participate in the one thing that has set our nation apart for almost 250 years. Free elections, rare in most of the world, are our way of life.
Freedom, bought with the blood and sacrifice of those we honor on Memorial Day, comes with responsibility to conduct our elections with integrity and civility. Ideally, it requires mutual respect among candidates and supporters of candidates.
Treat people as you wish to be treated, … friend, supporter, or opponent. It is how I have endeavored to conduct myself personally and as a Commissioner, and how I have conducted each of my campaigns.
Social media has become part and parcel of campaigning. Elected officials and candidates for elected positions should set an example. John F. Kennedy said, “Civility is not a sign of weakness.”
I proudly focus on the accomplishments I have helped Fayette County achieve. I use social media to share news and facts, not to denigrate. I believe citizens long to see civil discourse among their elected leaders and candidates.
There are many issues that will confront the District 5 Commissioner, and for which I have been sharing my thoughts. My candidacy is not based on one issue.
How do we enhance the safety and well-being or our community?
How do we preserve the distinguishing characteristics of Fayette County?
How do we balance growth and economic development?
How do we complement our way of life, not alter it?
How do we prepare for major expenses?
From budget challenges to building literal and figurative bridges, we face a multitude of issues.
Some examples of solutions already achieved …
• "The Board again demonstrates a long-term commitment to fiscal conservatism and efficiency while maintaining an outstanding level of customer service to its citizens." – NICHOLS, CAULEY & ASSOCIATES, LLC, Comprehensive Annual Financial Report 2019, page 9
• Our new TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Release) ordinance and policy, approved at our May 14 Board of Commissioners meeting, the culmination of a three-year effort with the Fayette Humane Society and the Office of the Solicitor General.
• Adoption of 911 Carbyne. "The first … in North America to advance its emergency services with cutting-edge technology to precisely and quickly locate victims."
• Statewide revision of law governing Veterans’ property tax refunds.
• $1,000,000 each approved for a new Animal Shelter and new Department of Health building.
• New safety training facility for law enforcement.
• One new fire station constructed, two under construction.
• 2017 SPLOST to rebuild county infrastructure.
